Steps to Service Learning
2010-2011 Academic Year
Service Learning must be done in conjunction with a credit-bearing course and supported by the faculty instructor.
1. Service Learning is typically a 20 hour/semester commitment, but can be more or less with the approval of your instructor.
2. Students who complete
20+ hours of service learning during your time at MWCC will receive a service pin to be worn at graduation in honor of the work you've done to support our community.
3. Students who complete
40+ hours of service learning during your time at MWCC will receive a service medallion to be worn at graduation in honor of the work you've done to support our community.
Service Learning pins and medallions will be distributed for qualifying students at the Annual Service Learning Celebration on Monday, May 2nd in the South Cafe beginning at 11:00 AM.
If you are participating in a service learning project:
1. Obtain required paperwork. This includes the following:
- If you are doing a class project or are performing your service on campus, you need the On-Campus Contract and time sheets;
- If you are doing your service learning project off‐campus, you need an Off-Campus Contract, Assumption of Risk Form, CORI form, time sheet and Agency Evaluation Form
You can obtain hard copies of these forms through Kathy Laperriere in the Academic Affairs office, room 118.
2. If you need to find site placements,
click here or contact Fagan Forhan at ext. 595 or in room 279 in the 2nd floor crossover.
3. Make certain that you have completed the Service Learning Contract, and if you are doing an off‐site placement, the CORI form (with a copy of your license or state ID) and Assumption of Risk Form prior the start of the project. This is mandatory and they must be submitted to room 118 prior to the start of any service learning placement or project.
4. All hours must be reported by students via a time sheet or via the
online reporting system by April 30th. All hours reported through the online mechanism will be sent to sponsoring faculty members for approval and verification the week of May 1st.
